One of my big messages to families is that there's always something you can be doing. You might not always be able to be able to impact change in that person using, but there's always other things you can be doing that can be helping you prepare. Knowledge is power and the more people know, the more they're armed with how to tackle this disease that most people are wholly unequipped to handle.
Imagine navigating the stormy seas of substance use disorder as a parent. In this episode of APC Recovery Cafe, Patty Sykstus, Co-Founder and CEO of Not One More Alabama, opens up about her personal journey through these turbulent waters. As a mother of a child with a substance use disorder, Patty shares the raw and real impact it had on her family and how education became their lifeline.
She talks candidly about the importance of parents being on the same page when addressing substance use with their children, and how a united front can make all the difference.
