Justin M.: From Solitary Drinking to Finding Hope in AA
All you can do is carry the message, and the message that you've shared with me Today is brilliant.
What happens when an airline pilot's life spirals out of control due to alcohol? Justin M. knows all too well. Raised in a family shadowed by alcoholism, Justin’s story is a rollercoaster of highs and lows. His father, also an alcoholic, battled mental health issues and tragically ended his own life. Despite warnings from his mother about their family’s struggle with alcohol, Justin's drinking escalated through high school and college.
As his career as an airline pilot soared, so did his solitary drinking habits. He managed to keep it hidden from his colleagues but spent countless nights in hotel rooms and at home, drowning in alcohol. Despite making numerous promises to cut back, each attempt ended in failure. His marriage and career were hanging by a thread when he finally turned to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
Initially, Justin’s efforts in AA were half-hearted, but hitting rock bottom forced him to fully commit. In this episode of 'AA Recovery Interviews', Justin opens up about the trials and triumphs of his journey to sobriety. He discusses the critical role of a supportive spouse, the stigma surrounding seeking help, and how addiction impacts loved ones. Justin’s story is not just about overcoming alcoholism; it’s about finding hope and the importance of carrying the message to others.
Tune in for a raw and inspiring conversation that sheds light on the realities of addiction and the transformative power of AA.
