I m not saying he hasn't tried it, but he is not a drinker because he too is an athlete, but it was probably sometime after my dad died, in that I knew I was going to be responsible and got to be responsible for my mom, and I do remember the drinking beginning to escalate, but not until close to probably did my two daughters asking if I was not happy or maybe that I didn't need to drink so much when I was around them.
Picture this: you're in your early 60s, living what seems like a normal life, only to realize that alcohol has slowly taken over. That’s exactly what happened to Judy H., who joins Howard L. in this episode of 'AA Recovery Interviews'. Judy’s story is a powerful reminder that it's never too late to seek help and turn your life around. Despite discovering her alcoholism later in life, Judy’s struggle was just as intense as anyone else's.
Her drinking escalated in her late 50s, fueled by her involvement in volunteer organizations where alcohol was ever-present. Always striving to please others and be perfect, it wasn’t until her daughters pointed out her problem that she sought help from Alcoholics Anonymous. Now, nearly nine years sober, Judy credits her success to the support of a sponsor, the mechanics of the AA program, and the power of prayer and meditation.
She also highlights the importance of being available for others, sharing how virtual meetings have been a lifeline, especially during the pandemic. Judy's journey is not just about her triumph over addiction but also about the invaluable lessons she learned along the way. This episode is a beacon of hope for older individuals struggling with alcoholism, proving that it’s never too late to change and find a new path in life.
