The truth is guys like cops aren't going away. Let them see what, uh, you know, a drug induced psychosis looks like like let them meet a gang-entrenched youth um and talk to them as a person in a safe space where they get to learn something um and take away a little more compassion when they're on the job that's right and take away the power dynamics right we employed some of these youth and we employed some folks who are living unhoused in our city and we put them right behind the counter with the police officer with the uh you know medical student that maybe is from china maybe has an ending exposure to homeless people and guess what y'all got paid the same salary to serve the same cup of coffee to the same person living unhoused in our community uh so there's no power dynamic there right you're all getting paid the same thing you're all doing the same job um and you are forced to talk to people as people uh and not stats and not all of those things and so the fear goes away and maybe those two institution-based fields um have an understanding that is different than they had from their academic work.
