James Veck-Gilodi: From Rock Bottom to Rocking Sobriety
“It's the identifications, it's the, it's the similarities, not the differences, that really are the only thing that has helped me get through and be sober and- and now really enjoy.”
Ever wondered how a rock star handles the chaos of addiction and finds a way back? In this episode of 'One For The Road', David Wilson, known as SoberDave, sits down with James Veck-Gilodi from Deaf Havana. James opens up about his years of battling alcohol and substance abuse, the collapse of his marriage, and the strain it put on his relationship with his brother.
Just when it seemed like Deaf Havana was done for good, the pandemic gave them an unexpected pause. It was in April 2021 that James finally took the brave step to attend an AA meeting, marking the start of his sobriety journey. He shares how removing alcohol from his life helped him mend broken relationships and breathe new life into his band, leading to the creation of a brand-new album in just three weeks.
This episode is a candid look at the highs and lows of addiction, the power of support systems, and the surprising ways creativity can flourish in recovery. Whether you're facing your own struggles or supporting someone who is, James' story offers a raw and hopeful perspective.
