James Oleen on American Duty's Efforts to Rescue Stranded Americans in Afghanistan

We're a coalition of veteran volunteers that have stood up to make a move because somebody had to take action. Today, our volunteers are out there in central Asia, not in Afghanistan, and here in The United States, working to build lists of people that we can help, and working with other similar groups that are out there taking different actions to get those people across the border and we are working within and exceeding guidelines of The State Department and international guidelines for refugee assistance today.
Picture this: a group of veterans banding together to rescue Americans left behind in Afghanistan. That's exactly what James Oleen, a combat veteran of the United States Army, and his organization, American Duty, are doing. In this episode of 'American Medicine Today', James shares the story behind their mission to bring stranded Americans and refugees home safely after the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan. The hosts kick off the conversation by expressing their gratitude for James's service.
James then draws a poignant parallel between the recent events in Afghanistan and the fall of Saigon, highlighting the urgency and emotional weight of their mission. He explains that American Duty is a coalition of veteran volunteers dedicated to rescuing those left behind. One key aspect James discusses is the health assessment of individuals before bringing them to the United States, especially considering the recent measles outbreak and ongoing COVID-19 concerns.
This careful approach underscores the group's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone involved. James emphasizes that American Duty operates as a nonpartisan group, with members from all political backgrounds working together towards the common goal of saving lives. This spirit of unity and collaboration is a testament to the dedication and resolve of these veterans. The episode wraps up with the hosts thanking James and his team for their incredible efforts.
It's a hopeful and inspiring conversation that shines a light on the power of collective action and the unwavering commitment of those who serve. Tune in to hear more about how American Duty is making a difference.
