Matt Katz on Healing Chronic Pain and Building Supportive Communities

I do mean it in the sense that he helped me on the right trajectory, but he also just gave me my life back, or helped me get my own life back, and so that journey with him has been night and day compared to kind of like the negative kind of trajectory that my health had taken for a really long period of time.
Ever felt like chronic pain was taking over your life? Matt Katz knows that feeling all too well. In this episode of The Shiftshow with Adriana Bucci, Matt opens up about his decade-long struggle with depression and chronic pain that turned his world upside down. Once an active law student, he found himself unable to work, sleep, or enjoy life. But everything changed when he discovered the TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome) approach to pain management.
Fast forward three years, and Matt has largely reclaimed his life from the grip of chronic pain. Now, he's on a mission to help others do the same. Matt is in the process of launching Joypops, a startup dedicated to creating small, safe, and boundary-driven communities for those suffering from TMS pain. These communities aim to offer social validation and peer support, which Matt believes are crucial for healing.
In his chat with Adriana, Matt delves into the importance of addressing trauma in pain recovery and the power of peer support groups. He also touches on the limitations of traditional medicine and how alternative approaches like TMS can offer new hope. The episode wraps up with a discussion on the role of podcasts in building connections and a call for listeners to check out Joypops.org, where they can get involved as beta testers or provide feedback.
This episode is a must-listen for anyone grappling with chronic pain or interested in the healing power of community support.
