Growing up in a middle-class Mormon family in Colorado, Abe faced immense pressure to conform, especially as he grappled with his sexuality. His early teens marked the beginning of a destructive relationship with alcohol, which spiraled into severe addiction by his twenties. This episode of GRIT takes you through Abe's tumultuous years filled with domestic abuse, legal troubles, and heartbreaking family conflicts.
Despite multiple attempts to break free, it was only after his second DUI that Abe began to see a glimmer of what recovery could offer. With the unwavering support of his recovery manager and the strength he found in communal living, Abe started to rebuild his life step by step. Today, he's dedicated to helping others find their own paths to sobriety.
