Rachel's Story: From Childhood Drinking to Sobriety and Hope
For the first time I really knew in my bones that it wasn't just going to go away, that I wouldn't be able to stop when it became a real problem.
Imagine taking your first drink at just eight years old. For Rachel, that sip was the beginning of a tumultuous journey. She recalls the warmth of the alcohol in her stomach, describing it as the most amazing feeling she had ever known. From sneaking drinks to avoid her parents' detection to waking up in unfamiliar beds during her college years, Rachel's life quickly spiraled out of control.
Her addiction took her across the globe, living in various countries but doing little more than drinking herself into oblivion. The lowest point came when she started wetting her bed out of sheer laziness, too deep in her addiction to care about anything else. Rachel's story is a stark reminder of how quickly alcohol can take over one's life. Despite hitting rock bottom multiple times, she struggled to maintain sobriety, even after seeking help from AA in the late '70s.
It wasn't until she truly accepted that she couldn't do it alone that things began to change. Today, Rachel is sober and deeply grateful for the community that helped her get there. She emphasizes the importance of reaching out for support and believes it's never too late to start the journey to recovery. Tune into this episode of Steppin' Out Radio to hear Rachel's raw and inspiring story.
