Heather's Path: From Firefighter to Sobriety

I know I need help, but I don't want to be put on a hold. That was one of the most humbling experiences of my life because for once now I'm on the other side.
Heather's life took a dramatic turn from aspiring doctor to paramedic, and eventually, firefighter. Her journey is filled with highs and lows, marked by the stress and trauma of handling emergency calls. As PTSD set in, Heather found herself in a 'boys club' environment where heavy drinking was the norm. Alcohol soon led to cocaine, pushing her deeper into addiction. But Heather's story doesn't end there.
Encouraged by friends, she sought recovery and has now been clean and sober for two months. In this episode, Heather opens up about her struggles with addiction and the toll it took on her personal and professional life. She speaks candidly about the moment she realized she needed help and the various methods she tried on her path to recovery. From rehab to therapy and 12-step programs, Heather's journey underscores that recovery is a unique process for everyone.
Heather also touches on how addiction affected her relationships, causing pain and hurt to those she loved. Yet, her story is one of hope and redemption. By embracing healthier coping mechanisms like exercise and meditation, she started to rebuild her life and mend broken relationships. This episode is a raw and honest look at the challenges of addiction and the strength it takes to overcome them.
Heather's experience serves as a beacon of hope for anyone struggling with similar issues, reminding us all that recovery is possible with the right support and determination.
