And David, I look forward to working with you and spending time with you and developing this friendship. Amazing things. when we do fireworks happen things occur amazing things and I'm always impressed that's why I keep coming back yeah so it's funny how many things Tannis and I have in common my mother was also an alcoholic my father was an Anglican minister and mom got sober in 1970. I felt really guilty about my drinking and using drugs because I got sober at 27 and everybody I'd been to school with or knew in my younger life had it all together I thought with two kids and the picket fence and all that and I was you know I had a slummy apartment and neighborhood you wouldn't feel safe in.
Imagine the courage it takes to face addiction head-on while also navigating the challenges of being queer in recovery. In this heartfelt episode of 'Voices in Recovery', Heather and Tanis open up about their personal battles with substance abuse and their journeys toward sobriety. Tanis shares a gripping tale of her early struggles with alcohol and drugs, including a harrowing incident involving the authorities that could have ended tragically.
Heather’s story is equally compelling, detailing her fight against addiction and the life-changing moments that led her to seek help. Both women discuss the unique hurdles they faced as queer individuals in recovery spaces, highlighting the need for inclusive and supportive environments. Their conversation culminates in an exciting announcement: they are starting a new LGBTQ2S twelve-step meeting to create a safe space for others in the community.
This episode is not just about the pain of addiction; it's about the triumph of overcoming it and the importance of being true to oneself. Tune in for an inspiring discussion that offers hope, resilience, and a sense of belonging to anyone on their own recovery journey.
