I was always so desperate to tell him like I did this thing that you told me to do... I'd call him and be like, 'Hey, just got done reading pages 63 through 66,' and he's like, 'Cool,' he's like, 'You finally done what someone told you to.'
When the dark cloud of alcoholism had nearly consumed his life, Guy R. knew something had to change. Years of heavy drinking and drug use had taken their toll, leading to a series of job losses and a DUI. His once-reliable charm and hard work were no longer enough to mask the chaos within.
In this episode of 'AA Recovery Interviews', Guy shares his powerful story of transformation, from the depths of addiction to three years of sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous. Guy's journey is a raw and honest account of battling addiction. He speaks candidly about the cleverly-crafted lies he told himself and others, and how his denial kept him trapped in a cycle of misery. But even in his darkest moments, there was a glimmer of hope.
A few encounters with AA in the past had planted a seed, and when he finally decided to attend meetings, that seed began to grow. Finding a sponsor who guided him through the steps was a turning point for Guy. Slowly but surely, he started to incorporate the principles of AA into his daily life. His story is a testament to the power of humility, service, and the transformative nature of the AA program.
Today, Guy's demeanor both in and outside of meetings reflects the profound changes he's made. This episode is more than just a story; it's a beacon for anyone struggling with addiction or supporting someone who is. Guy's experience highlights the challenges and triumphs of staying sober, demonstrating that recovery is possible with perseverance and support. Tune in to hear how Guy turned his life around and found hope and healing through Alcoholics Anonymous.
