I never really considered not using alcohol and drugs. I mean, I have certain or had certain favorites, but for the most part, I was 37 when I when I quit drinking and came to AA and I had had run out of road and I had never really thought about it.
Ever wondered what it takes to turn a life of chaos into one of purpose? Greg S. knows all too well. Raised in a Californian household marred by alcoholism, Greg's early years were a cocktail of booze, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. By the age of 14, he was already deep into drinking and marijuana, using music as his escape.
His teenage years were a blur of heavy partying and attempts to fit in, but it wasn't long before his lifestyle started taking its toll. At 18, he formed a successful band, only to be ousted by his own bandmates for his excessive drinking. This pattern of overindulgence followed him into adulthood, leading to multiple divorces and brushes with the law.
Despite his chaotic personal life, Greg managed to maintain a facade of functionality, especially in the music industry where his behavior was often overlooked. But the facade eventually crumbled. A drunken assault on a family member marked the turning point that pushed Greg towards sobriety. Now, 25 years sober, Greg reflects on his journey with Howard L. in this episode of AA Recovery Interviews.
He shares candid insights into how he overcame his tumultuous past, the importance of community support, and the transformative power of the AA program. Greg's story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and serves as a beacon of hope for anyone struggling with addiction. Whether you're on your own path to sobriety or supporting someone who is, Greg's journey offers valuable lessons and inspiration.
