Finding a Higher Power: Personal Stories from 12-Step Recovery

Once I started in my-step program, I started finding out about many others which have been very helpful. This has been the foundation for my recovery, the simple acceptance of the truth that my higher power doesn't ask anything of me before I am able to hear.
How do you feel about the word 'God' in the 12 steps? Does it make you uneasy, or perhaps even skeptical? In this episode of The Recovery Show, two speakers from a Narcotics Anonymous convention tackle this very topic, sharing their unique journeys of finding a God of their understanding. These personal stories shed light on how embracing a higher power can be pivotal in the recovery process.
One speaker recounts how their initial higher power was the group and the steps themselves, which eventually led to a deeper spiritual connection through service and practicing the steps. The other speaker discusses how accepting a higher power became the cornerstone of their recovery, emphasizing that their higher power didn't demand anything before they were ready to listen.
This episode also highlights the transformative gifts of Al-Anon, illustrating how acceptance and changed attitudes can lead to a life filled with serenity, joy, and fulfillment. Tune in for an honest and heartfelt discussion that might just change your perspective on spirituality in recovery.
