Barry Richardson: From Addiction to a Life of Service

I'm okay with where I'm at in my recovery today. You're so humble because there's not many people that can say they've touched the lives of a thousand people, and that's just through your work, and we don't know about the other people.
Barry Richardson’s story is one of transformation and hope. Growing up in the North Carolina countryside, Barry was drawn to an addictive lifestyle from a young age. His journey took him through the Navy, where the social acceptance of alcohol and his addiction to cocaine took a toll on his life. In this episode of 'Recovery Matters! Podcast', Barry joins hosts Sandy and Phil Valentine to share his incredible path from addiction to a life dedicated to helping others.
For over two years, Barry has served as an Emergency Department Recovery Coach with CCAR, aiding more than 1,000 individuals in Connecticut hospitals. He reflects on the struggles he faced, the multiple attempts at treatment, and how he eventually found a supportive community that helped him maintain sobriety. Barry talks about the importance of self-care, sponsorship, and humility in his recovery journey.
He also discusses the impact of addiction on his family and community, and how his role in service has been a cornerstone of his healing process. This episode is a powerful reminder of the transformative power of recovery and the importance of giving back.
