Plaid for a Cause: Shanta Rangaratnam's Mission for Children's Mental Health
I think it's to be part of something bigger than themselves, is teaching kids to well, first of all, that the world is bigger than just them, especially at their age.
What do you do when faced with unimaginable loss? For Shanta Rangaratnam, the answer was plaid. In this episode of 'Life Unscripted', host Janice Arnoldi chats with Shanta, the heart and soul behind #ProjectPlaid. This movement was born out of tragedy after Shanta's daughter, Amelia, died by suicide in 2019.
Amelia loved wearing plaid, and Shanta decided to turn her grief into action by launching a campaign that not only helped her cope but also connected countless others struggling with mental health issues. November is now plaid month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about suicide prevention and encouraging kids to talk openly about their mental health. Shanta’s goal is to raise $30,000 for youth mental health programs at Pathstone Mental Health in Niagara.
The episode also features Kim Rossi, director of philanthropy at Pathstone Foundation, who sheds light on the importance of fundraising for these vital programs. They dive into how COVID-19 has impacted children's mental health and discuss the role of social media in promoting body positivity and responsible behavior. This conversation is not just about raising funds; it's about building a community that supports and uplifts each other.
So, grab your plaid, tune in, and find out how you can be part of this life-changing movement.
