Danni points out, 'We don't really address it that much in the black community.
Firsthand experience, it's more so a secret.' Tatyana echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of normalizing sobriety within their community. 'I think hashtag normalized sobriety, normalized sobriety, is important because that'll help our community. I mean my black community of brothers and sisters,' she says. The trio doesn’t shy away from discussing the critical role of support systems in recovery.
Monique shares, 'It's important to me to always have someone that's like-minded with me when you know I might be going out and being social and like...I'm just not gonna do that, even though it's my family, you know.' They also highlight the value of community events in promoting recovery, mentioning upcoming celebrations like Pride and Juneteenth as pivotal moments for fostering unity and support. They acknowledge that setbacks are part of the journey.
Monique candidly admits, 'I just need a couple days to like, for a breather, because...I feel like that becomes a heavy burden on somebody. And that becomes a burden because it's like now I'm responsible for them and responsible for myself.'
