Celebrating National Recovery Month: Community and Innovation in Addiction Recovery

It is our moral obligation in this disease to constantly be able to reprioritize the percentage of how we're going to allocate all of our resources- and that can be time or money or whatever- to the constantly changing needs of the community.
September brings National Recovery Month, and the McShin Foundation is shining a light on initiatives that are making a difference across the nation. In this episode of 'Get in the Herd', host Alex Bond sits down with Jeff Breedlove and Tina Clements to explore the critical role of community in addiction recovery. Jeff Breedlove, Chief of Communications and Policy at the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse, offers his perspective on advocacy and policy-making.
He shares how these efforts can create supportive environments for individuals battling substance use disorders. Tina Clements, founder of RISEUP, a community-based recovery support center, discusses the unique challenges faced in rural areas. She highlights innovative approaches to overcoming barriers like food insecurity and housing instability. The conversation also touches on the impact of COVID-19 on recovery efforts and the importance of evidence-based peer support.
As Jeff puts it, 'It's our moral obligation to constantly adapt our resources to meet the changing needs of the community'. This episode is a heartfelt reminder of the power of collaboration and community support in achieving lasting recovery. Tune in to hear more about these inspiring efforts and join the conversation on building stronger, healthier communities.
