I wanted to make people love me, because I thought I have to work hard to make people love me.
Katya's childhood seemed idyllic at first. Born in Switzerland and raised in Israel, she had many beautiful memories. But behind the facade of normalcy, her father struggled with drug addiction. As a child, Katya didn't fully grasp the extent of his problem. She never saw him in such an altered state that he couldn't function, so she believed everything was fine. However, as she grew older, the reality of her father's addiction began to take its toll on their relationship.
Katya found herself constantly trying to 'fix' her dad, yearning for his love and approval. This desire extended beyond her family, as she sought validation from friends and strangers alike. The turning point came when her father introduced her to Al-Anon, a support group for those affected by someone else's drinking or drug use. It was here that Katya started her journey towards healing.
Through Al-Anon, Katya learned the importance of letting go of the need to control others and began focusing on her own well-being. She discovered the power of forgiveness and started breaking the cycle of addiction that had plagued her family. Despite the challenges, Katya emerged with a positive outlook on life and a deeper understanding of healthy relationships.
