Dan M: Pioneering Secular AA Meetings in London

I think one of the things I've kind of learned from AA is I've kind of figured out what my story is and I've been able to articulate it, you know, and kind of find language for it, and I just take it as a given now that I can talk about things and how I'm feeling and problems, and for a long time I couldn't, I couldn't talk about it and it was all kind of, you know, a terrible kind of shameful secret and full of embarrassment and all of the things that people talk about as AA meetings.
Meet Dan M from London, England, who has carved out a unique path to sobriety by founding the first agnostic AA meeting in his city. In this episode of 'Beyond Belief Sobriety', Dan opens up about his personal journey and the hurdles he faced within traditional AA, particularly its religious overtones. He shares how he found his voice and learned to articulate his struggles and emotions, which had long been a challenge for him.
Dan also dives into the rise of secular AA meetings around the globe and discusses the issues of sponsorship and magical thinking within AA. His story underscores the importance of inclusivity in recovery communities and highlights the diverse options available for those seeking a non-religious route to sobriety. This episode is a must-listen for anyone curious about secular recovery methods and the future of inclusive support systems.
