Imagine growing up in a strict Mormon family, only to face the added trauma of sexual assault. This episode of 'Surviving Straight Inc' introduces a former client of Lifeline, a young woman who recounts her harrowing journey. Despite excelling academically and participating in various extracurricular activities, she found herself under constant scrutiny from her parents. Her experimentation with drugs and alcohol led to her being forcibly taken to Lifeline by transporters, where she spent a grueling year.
Inside Lifeline, she faced a so-called 'therapeutic' approach designed to break her down before building her back up. The episode dives deep into her first day at the program, the intense confrontations, and the forced disclosures of personal information. Lifeline, now operating under the name Lifeline For Youth, still exists today. This episode is a raw and revealing look at the psychological and emotional toll such programs can take on young individuals.
