Stephen Cochran: Rising from the Ashes and Embracing Recovery

I think there's a familiarity, right, like people say, and there's a cliche, you know religions, for people don't want to go to hell and recoveries people who have been to hell.
Ever wondered how someone can rebuild their life after hitting rock bottom? In this episode of 'Positive Recovery MD', Dr. Jason Powers sits down with Stephen Cochran, the Principal and Owner of Cochran Design Studio, to share a gripping story of resilience and recovery. Stephen's journey is a testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome even the darkest of times. At just 14, Stephen faced the unimaginable tragedy of his mother's suicide.
By 16, he was married with a child, only to lose his younger brother in a car crash a year later. His wife left him shortly after, plunging him into a world of alcohol and drugs as a means to cope. Despite these overwhelming challenges, Stephen managed to get clean in 1990, build a career in architecture, and start anew with his family. However, ego and complacency led him back into addiction for another decade.
It wasn't until October 4, 2005, that Stephen began his true journey towards lasting sobriety. In this heartfelt conversation, Dr. Powers and Stephen explore the crucial role of acceptance in recovery. They discuss how group therapy can act as a mirror, reflecting our struggles and triumphs through the experiences of others. Stephen emphasizes the importance of empathy and connecting with people who have walked similar paths.
He also shares how his passion for architecture has become a source of beauty and purpose in his life. This episode isn't just about overcoming addiction; it's about finding gratitude and meaning in every moment. Whether you're on your own recovery journey or supporting someone who is, Stephen's story offers valuable insights and hope.
