Leonard Buschel: From Hollywood Highs to Sobriety Success

I went from completely living with and on drugs and alcohol for years, I mean every day...I really started looking into me and changing me and then came home and I got really involved in the community and still doing that today, running a nonprofit, helping the guys that work with us.
Leonard Buschel, a name that resonates with Hollywood glitz and the raw reality of addiction, joins Ty Bechel on Recovery Uncensored to share his compelling journey. Leonard's story is one of transformation from a marijuana and MDMA addict to a celebrated author and recovery advocate. His newly released memoir, 'HIGH: Confessions of a Cannabis Addict', is at the heart of this conversation, revealing the gritty details of his struggle and eventual triumph over addiction.
Leonard opens up about his unexpected path to sobriety, which began during a scorching summer in an Arizona rehab. Despite his initial resistance, something shifted within him, leading to a profound change that set him on a new course. He candidly discusses the heartbreak of losing the love of his life, a catalyst that nearly broke him but ultimately led him to seek help. Beyond his personal recovery, Leonard has made significant contributions to the recovery community.
He founded the Reel Recovery Film Festival, Writers in Recovery, and the Addiction and Recovery eBulletin. His film festival, now in its 14th year, earned him the prestigious Link Award for promoting recovery through film and discussion. In this episode, Leonard and Ty also tackle broader issues like the impact of the internet on addiction, the dangers of fentanyl, and the opioid crisis in Madison County.
Leonard's insights into the healing power of humor and storytelling provide a refreshing perspective on recovery. His dedication to helping others shines through as he shares his ongoing efforts in running a nonprofit and supporting those in recovery. Tune in for an inspiring conversation that blends Hollywood tales with heartfelt honesty, offering hope and practical wisdom for anyone touched by addiction.
