Couples Therapy: Navigating the Blame Game and Embracing Vulnerability

You don't make me feel some type of way. I make me feel some type of way. If you're telling someone: hey, when you do that, it makes me feel like I'm a loser. My argument or my teaching when I speak to sponsees and when I call my sponsor or mentor, is no fool. They don't make you feel like a loser. You feel like a loser and you are blaming them for an insecurity, or you're blaming them for something that you feel or something that you're not doing and you're putting it on them, which number one makes you a victim and gives all the power to someone else.
Ever find yourself tangled in the blame game during a heated argument? In this episode of 'The High Cost of Anonymity', Preston Moore opens up about his journey through couples therapy and the surprising lessons he's learned. He humorously admits to initially pointing fingers at his partner, only to realize that perhaps he was part of the problem too. Moore shares his experience of softening his rigid views, especially within his family dynamics.
He candidly discusses the concept of radical responsibility – the idea that no one can make you feel a certain way; it's all on you. But beware, Moore also touches on how taking too much responsibility can slip into codependency, a trap he knows all too well from growing up in an alcoholic home. This episode isn't just for those in crisis; it's a call to normalize seeking help before things reach a breaking point.
Moore passionately advocates for making therapy as routine as hitting the gym, shattering the stigma around mental health and addiction. Tune in for a mix of heartfelt honesty, practical advice, and a dash of humor that makes tough topics a bit more approachable.
