From Recovery to Financial Independence: Diana Yáñez’s Inspiring Journey

Episode Overview

  • Diana's journey from recovery to becoming a Certified Financial Planner
  • The transformative power of community support and the 12-step program
  • Empowering women, especially women of color, to develop a healthier relationship with money
  • Addressing trauma and generational wealth issues impacting marginalized communities
  • Mindfulness practice and community building as essential tools for personal and financial growth
Recovery itself, learning the 12-step program, it has its own momentum. I was really active in 12 steps for almost for a decade, honestly. I eventually stepped away from it. There were aspects of it that were actually holding me back at some level. I moved into a different spiritual community that I now find more supportive in the work that I do now.
Imagine turning your life around from battling bulimia and navigating family addiction to becoming a beacon of financial empowerment for women of color. That’s the remarkable journey of Diana Yáñez, the guest on this episode of the Recovery Plus Podcast. Hosted by the insightful Dr. Mei-Li Hennen, this conversation dives deep into Diana’s transformative path and her mission to reshape financial management for underserved communities.
Diana’s story begins with her recovery from bulimia and her decade-long involvement in Al-Anon, which helped her cope with her family’s struggles with alcohol addiction. She shares how recovery not only changed her life but also deepened her relationships with herself and others. Today, Diana is the founder of All the Colors and a Certified Financial Planner, Registered Life Planner, and Financial Empowerment Guide. Her vision is ambitious: to create culturally aware financial systems that support women of color entrepreneurs.
With over ten years of experience in the financial industry and a background in social work, Diana brings a unique perspective to her coaching practice. She understands that financial jargon often needs to be translated into language that resonates with her clients’ experiences and priorities. Living as a digital nomad in Latin America, Diana’s work is as diverse as her travels. This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in how personal recovery can lead to broader societal impact.
Diana’s blend of personal anecdotes and professional insights offers hope and practical advice for those looking to transform their relationship with money and achieve financial independence.
