15 Years of TWLOHA: From Myspace to Mental Health Advocacy
Through all of that, through how we've all kind of grown up into what the internet has become, what social media has become, I think one of the things that I love most, still being now on the outside and looking in, is that since day one, like even to now, that message of hope, that consistency, has just remained there through no matter what.
What started as a simple idea has grown into a movement that’s touched countless lives. In this episode of the 'To Write Love on Her Arms' podcast, founder Jamie Tworkowski takes us on a journey through the 15-year history of the organization. Jamie shares how TWLOHA began unexpectedly and some of his most cherished memories along the way. Remember Myspace? Chris Youngblood, the first social media coordinator, reminisces about managing an overflowing inbox and Myspace account from his T-Mobile Sidekick.
It's a nostalgic trip back to the early days of social media and grassroots activism. But the story doesn't stop there. Fast forward to today, and you'll meet Katie Mumper and Bianca Mujica, two current team members who keep the mission alive by responding to comments, texts, and DMs. They share their experiences and the importance of digital connection in today's world. This episode also introduces 'The Hopeful', TWLOHA's upcoming self-care app designed to offer daily mental health support.
Whether you’ve been following TWLOHA from the start or are new to their work, this episode is a heartfelt celebration of hope, connection, and the power of sharing our stories.
