Youth Suicide: From Despair to Hope with Jermine Alberty and Amy R Miller

I've often said that I believe that suicide is often the result of a deficit of hope when persons lose hope in themselves for themselves and often lose hope in society at large.
Suicide is a heavy topic, but it's one that needs to be addressed, especially when it comes to our youth. In this episode of 'The SALT TALK with Jermine Alberty', Jermine sits down with therapist Amy R Miller to tackle the urgent issue of youth suicide prevention. September marks Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to bring this often-hidden subject into the light.
Youth suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people aged 15-24, and the statistics are alarming—one in 15 high school students attempts suicide each year. Amy R Miller, a therapist with a deep passion for helping teenagers, women, and families affected by trauma, joins Jermine to share her wealth of knowledge and practical tools.
Amy's approach centers on the belief that there's good in everyone, sometimes we just need a little help to bring it to the surface. She's certified in relationship trauma repair (RTR) and trauma-informed services, making her insights particularly valuable. Together, they discuss creating safe spaces for difficult conversations, the importance of checking in with loved ones, and how individualized support can make a world of difference. They offer actionable advice on how to equip young people with hope and resilience.
If you're looking for a heartfelt and informative discussion on how to support the mental health of the youth in your life, this episode is a must-listen.
