Peter O. Estevez's story is a powerful reminder that resilience can turn even the darkest times into a path of success and fulfillment. Born in Mexico City, Peter moved to the United States at age 10 with his family, facing challenges like illiteracy, poverty, and abuse. Despite these hurdles, he became a successful entrepreneur in the energy, gas, and oil sectors in Mexico.
However, his achievements were marred by a battle with alcohol addiction, which he finally overcame on October 31, 2000. In this episode of 'Recovery Plus Podcast', Peter shares how he hid his pain behind alcohol, women, and material possessions, and the toll it took on his relationships, including a marriage that ended in divorce. His turning point came during an AA meeting when a call from his son made him realize the need to take responsibility for his life.
Peter's journey didn’t stop at sobriety. He became a philanthropist and advocate for recovery and mental health, particularly within the Latino community. He authored the book 'From Lies To Riches' and hosts 'The Latinx Experience' podcast. Through his movement 'Excelente', Peter aims to break the stigma around addiction and mental health.
