Inside ECU's Collegiate Recovery Community with Jarmichael Harris

For most of our students in eastern North Carolina, particularly at ecu, the term of recovery is something that they're just kind of learning or becoming adept to, and so you know a huge part of what we do on our campus with the ecu's collegiate recovery community is educating the broader campus community on what recovery is.
What does it take to support students in recovery at a university? In this episode, Jacob Harding chats with Jarmichael Harris, the Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC) Coordinator at East Carolina University (ECU). They dive into the unique challenges and successes of the CRC, shedding light on how they help students navigate recovery while pursuing their education. Jarmichael shares his personal journey and the vital role of mentorship in fostering a supportive environment for students battling substance use disorders.
They discuss the power of language, the impact of stigma, and the importance of identity in the recovery process. Additionally, the episode touches on ECU's initiatives to tackle food insecurity and provide essential resources for students in need. This conversation is a must-listen for anyone interested in understanding how educational institutions can play a crucial role in supporting recovery and promoting a healthier campus community.
