Katharine Haines: From Darkness to Recovery and Advocacy
I think the first step is telling somebody and I think that's the hardest thing to do - admitting to yourself or recognizing that there's an issue, that you need help with something, even if it's just as simple as my head won't stop spinning at night and I can't sleep.
Katharine Haines' story is one of resilience and hope. As a student at Quinnipiac University, Katharine's path to success was anything but smooth. From a young age, she grappled with anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. These intense mental health struggles led her down a dark road of addiction and alcoholism, ultimately causing her to drop out of college the first time around. But Katharine's journey didn't end there.
After spending time in rehab and finding effective ways to manage her mental health, she has emerged stronger and more determined than ever. Now, Katharine attends AA meetings, lives in a sober house with other recovering addicts, and works in treatment centers to help others who are battling addiction. In this episode of 'Behind the Mind', host Kevin Meiselman sits down with Katharine to discuss her incredible journey.
They explore the importance of vocalizing problems, seeking help, and building a strong support system. Katharine's candidness about her struggles and triumphs offers a beacon of hope for anyone facing similar challenges. Her message is clear: taking the first step to talk about your struggles can make all the difference.
