I definitely used alcohol as a coping mechanism to try and forget a lot of those things that I'd been through, and pretty quickly alcohol became sort of my only coping mechanism and a way that I smoothed over kind of the imperfections, or perceived imperfections, of my personality, of my past, of all the things I was really insecure about.
