And perhaps we don't talk about the unwritten part of treatment enough because we've certainly covered a lot of it today, in that rehab is not just about going in and doing a few groups and getting off whatever your poison was and making a few arrangements for where you're going afterwards and doing a few bits of written work and doing groups whereby you understand what you're dealing with and what you need to do it's not just about that it's about being wrenched away from your environment put in with a load of people you don't know some of whom you may not like or get on with some of whom might be the type of people you would never normally meet yeah and to actually exist and collaborate with them over a period of time it doesn't mean you have to be friends for life it doesn't mean you have to divulge your darkest secrets but it does mean that you are actually engaging with other people in a way that you as an adult may never have done before and it's critical that and that's why residential treatment tends to work better than day treatment i don't think residential treatment works better purely because you're confined i don't think that's the key the key is is that you're sat there in a group that you wouldn't have chosen to be in and you can't get away from them.
