Instead of escaping life, lean into it and live it fully and vibrantly. That doesn't mean that if you live a religious life, you avoid all pain and only feel pleasure. We're living in an age that people can't live with discomfort or inconvenience. We give everyone a participation trophy and we don't let anyone fall and skim their knee as you were talking about with your grandchild. And we'll build up a resilience that will give us the strength to not need to run and to escape and to use other tools like faith and spirituality and community and friendship and volunteering, which can be the substitute and give us the benefits of those same substances without the dangers of them.
