My physical appearance, my tattoos, are a representation of my commitment to recovery and to what I choose to do to be well. So if ever I doubt myself, if ever I think about, 'Oh, you know, maybe I can, maybe I can't, or I'm like, you know, 20% in, 80% out,' I'll just look at myself in the mirror and I'll go, 'Nah, mate, nah, you're in.'
Imagine being known as the most tattooed person on the planet. For Lucky Diamond Rich, this isn't just a title—it's a testament to his journey through addiction and recovery. Growing up amidst domestic violence in Brisbane, Lucky found his escape in circus arts. The moment a community circus group visited his school, he was hooked, diving into a world of performance and creativity.
But at 18, alcohol entered his life, and what started as a thrill quickly spiraled into a destructive habit. Traveling the world as a performer, Lucky sought validation through applause and acceptance, masking his inner turmoil with substances. In this episode, Lucky opens up about his tumultuous path, from the highs of international performances to the lows of addiction. His story takes a pivotal turn when he hits rock bottom and begins his recovery journey at Regent Street Hoos.
It wasn't an easy road; it took him six years to fully embrace sobriety. Now, his tattoos are more than just ink—they're symbols of his unwavering commitment to staying clean. As Lucky puts it, 'If ever I doubt myself...I'll just look at myself in the mirror and I'll go, 'Nah mate, you're in.' Listeners will find themselves drawn into Lucky's raw and honest narrative, discovering how he transformed his life through self-acceptance and determination.
This episode is a powerful reminder that no matter how deep one falls, there's always a way back up.
