Choosing Freedom: Stories of Divorce and Recovery
Episode Overview
Seven women share their experiences of moving on from alcoholic marriages through divorce Discussion on the trauma of active addiction and the pain of early recovery Emphasis on the power of choice and finding one's own path to healing Personal reflections on making the decision to move on and the challenges faced Insights into building a new life and finding joy after alcoholism
Our goal was to help people recover their marriages from alcoholism, but I think I had said at some point on the podcast, one of the reasons we survived is because we just wanted it more than other people. And it has literally changed our mission from trying to help people recover their marriages from alcoholism to trying to help individuals make the right choices, find their own path and make the decision that's right for them. I can't tell you how thankful I am that you asked us that question.
What happens when the 'happily ever after' includes a divorce? In this gripping episode of the Untoxicated Podcast, Sheri and Matt Salis bring together seven brave women who share their deeply personal journeys of leaving alcoholic marriages. Whether they had young kids, grown children, or no kids at all, each woman's story is a testament to the power of choice and resilience. Some ex-husbands are now sober, while others continue to struggle, and one tragically lost his life to addiction.
Yet, these women found the courage to seek a better future. As Barbara poignantly says, 'Sometimes the happy ending is the divorce'. This episode challenges societal norms and offers a raw look at the triumphs and trials of starting anew. Sheri and Matt kick off the conversation by addressing a listener's question, making it clear that this podcast is as interactive as it is informative. If you're dealing with similar struggles or seeking inspiration, this episode is a must-listen.
