Steve's Journey: Finding Strength in Spirituality and Recovery

Recovery started from a place of that power, you know, and it started from a place of, yes, of Christian beliefs. But I will say that I thought I had a connection with a higher power because I was going to church every Sunday and I had this idea that you know, God worked for me, and when I didn't get things that I wanted or if I was angry and afraid and I felt like it wasn't listening, it just, you know, it made me feel like I was very much alone, but I really just didn't understand that that wasn't how that whole business worked.
Imagine finding a lifeline in the midst of chaos. In this heartfelt episode of 'Voices from Rock Bottom', Steve opens up to DJ Prof B about his battle with addiction and mental illness. Steve shares his story of searching for something greater than himself to bring peace and balance into his life. His journey wasn't easy—filled with labels and diagnoses that felt like shackles, he sought solace in alcohol, which only deepened his isolation.
But then, a turning point: connecting with a higher power that helped him reclaim his life. Steve’s raw honesty about the role spirituality played in his recovery is both moving and relatable. He reflects on the importance of self-awareness, emotional security, and gratitude, offering listeners a powerful message of hope and resilience. This episode isn't just about Steve's past; it's about the ongoing process of staying present and connected in recovery.
Whether you're on your own recovery path or supporting someone who is, Steve’s story provides a beacon of understanding and encouragement.
