Devyn's Journey: From Darkness to Light Through Recovery
People don't understand how we, as addicts and active addiction, just can't stop normal people. So, you telling that story like you're, you know, like you want to stop, so bad, you don't know how to stop.
Imagine feeling so lost that cutting yourself brings a sense of relief. That's where Devyn's story begins. With just four months clean, Devyn sits down with host Marco Morillo to recount their harrowing journey through addiction. The impact of their parents' divorce and the trauma of sexual abuse left Devyn feeling isolated and desperate for validation. This led to their first addiction: cutting, which brought a fleeting sense of euphoria.
As a teenager, Devyn turned to alcohol and weed, seeking that same blissful escape. But the spiral didn't stop there. In and out of mental hospitals for suicidal thoughts, Devyn was eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder and became addicted to cocaine. Despite these challenges, Devyn found hope in rehab and the fellowship of Narcotics Anonymous. Now, with a sponsor and a diligent program, they work every day to stay clean.
This episode isn't just about the darkness; it's about the light at the end of the tunnel. Devyn's story is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible, one day at a time.
