I really wanted to show why that seemed like a good idea, why that progression was understandable. And so I do start with my family situation. I wasn't really bonded to my mother. Well, she wasn't bonded to me. She could be violent, but really when we moved in with my stepfather, things escalated because he was exceedingly violent. And so for me, that picking up, it seemed useful in the moment. It seemed like it was helpful, but it turned on me really fast. And so my addiction was really underway.
