Julia Negron: Shifting the Focus from Jail Cells to Classrooms

I'm a big fan of harm reduction, you know, and because I've been a treatment professional for years and because I'm recovering and because I have a kid in the game, you know, in my mind there's nothing incongruous about all of that and harm reduction strategies, you know, and I don't understand why more people in the recovery community don't step out on that and, you know, start using strategies that save lives.
Julia Negron, once intertwined with the music scene of The Doors and The Allman Brothers, now champions a different cause: transforming how society handles addiction. In this episode of 'I Took the High Road', host Jacob Jansen sits down with Julia to discuss why education should replace incarceration in the fight against substance abuse. Julia's journey from the LA Overdose Task Force to her advocacy work in Florida highlights her dedication to harm reduction and decriminalization.
With a focus on naloxone access legislation and public health approaches, Julia argues that drug dependence should be managed by healthcare professionals, not the criminal justice system. Tune in to hear about the Suncoast Harm Reduction Project and how changing our approach can save lives and reduce stigma.
