Nathan was a beautiful intellectual spirit, very, very introverted, but a beautiful introverted spirit who grew up on Cape Cod, playing sports, going to school. He was very smart, did really well, received all kinds of awards, the Presidential Academic Excellence Award and all of those kinds of things. And he was really an easy child. So he was not a, you know, he wasn't red flagged in any way for this. But, you know, he fell into that generation of opioid users. And once he sort of started, we just couldn't stop him.
Grief can feel like an endless maze, but Kerry Bickford has found a way to light the path for others. In this episode of 'Courage to Hope', host Tony LaGreca sits down with Kerry, a peer grief specialist and the publisher of 'The Voice', a monthly newsletter. Kerry's journey is deeply personal; she lost her son Nathan to a decade-long struggle with substance use disorder.
Her story is both heart-wrenching and inspiring, offering a raw look at the devastating impact of addiction on families, especially grandparents who find themselves raising grandchildren. Kerry shares her own experiences of navigating the labyrinth of grief and discusses how she turned her pain into a mission to support others. She provides invaluable insights into the complexities of grief and the ripple effects of substance-related deaths.
This episode is not just about loss but also about resilience and the unwavering commitment to helping others find solace and hope.
