Robyn Houston-Bean: Transforming Grief into a Beacon of Hope

I've always found helping others helps myself and in any small way, if you're feeling really really lost in your grief, just doing really something simple.
What do you do when faced with unimaginable loss? For Robyn Houston-Bean, it meant turning her grief into a powerful force for good. In this heartfelt episode of 'Courage to Hope', host Tony Lagreca sits down with Robyn to discuss the birth and growth of the Sun Will Rise Foundation. Robyn opens up about her middle son, Nicholas, who struggled with substance use and tragically passed away.
She talks about the isolation she felt, keeping his struggles a secret even from family members. Her journey took a pivotal turn when she found solace in a grief recovery after substance passing (GRASP) support group in Brighton. Realizing the need for more such groups, especially on the South Shore, Robyn decided to take action. The Sun Will Rise Foundation was born from this need, named after a hopeful note Nicholas had written: 'Please be happy, the sun will rise'.
The foundation now offers various support groups, including ones for men, significant others, and general grief support. These groups provide a safe space where people can share their feelings without judgment. Robyn also highlights the importance of remembrance events, like butterfly releases and sunrise ceremonies, which offer unique ways to honor loved ones lost to substance use. Through these efforts, the Sun Will Rise Foundation aims to break the stigma surrounding addiction and provide a community of support and healing.
As Robyn poignantly shares, helping others helps oneself, and her foundation is a testament to that belief. Tune in to hear her inspiring story and learn how the foundation continues to offer courage and hope to those in need.
