Jesse and Jason: Triumphs Over Addiction and Finding Purpose

I really think that the hot yoga is part of my story and I like to mention it because I found that, like lots of people in recovery, especially from opiate addiction, benefit from it.
Picture a life that seemed destined for success but took an unexpected turn into the dark world of addiction. That’s Jesse’s story. Growing up on the NH seacoast, she had a supportive family and numerous opportunities. Yet, she found herself entangled in substance use disorder, eventually becoming an IV drug user. Her journey to recovery was fraught with challenges, including rehab stints, incarcerations, broken relationships, and the heartbreaking loss of her boyfriend to an overdose.
But through it all, Jesse found her way to sobriety through the 12-step program. Today, she’s not just surviving; she’s thriving. She regained custody of her child, works at a recovery center, hosts a show on recovery, and is even pursuing a master’s in social work. Her mission now? To connect with others and offer them the same hope she found. Jason, affectionately known as “SNOOKIE”, also shares his story of long-term recovery.
He, too, comes from a loving family and had big dreams. However, addiction had other plans for him. In this episode of 'The Empty Chair', both Jesse and Jason open up about their struggles and triumphs. They discuss the importance of community support and finding healing in unexpected places like hot yoga. They also touch on how the pandemic has impacted recovery efforts and the significance of staying connected, even when in-person meetings aren’t possible.
Through their stories, they underscore the mission of 'The Empty Chair': to spread hope and healing to those battling addiction. As the hosts explain, “This empty chair represents the addict who died today, not knowing recovery was possible”. Jesse and Jason’s journeys are powerful reminders that no matter how tough the road may be, there is always hope for a brighter tomorrow.
