Revitalizing Indigenous Agriculture with Kelsey Ducheneaux

We work with tribal producers, tribal entities and tribal governments as a whole to analyze what their agricultural operations look like and help figure out how they can add that additional layer of dimension and appreciation for those resources and build upward or vertically, integrate or diversify or mitigate risk through kind of shifting some of their investments or taking back ownership of managing some of those land resources.
Imagine a world where sustainable farming meets traditional wisdom. That's the vision Kelsey Ducheneaux brings to life in this episode of the Hippie Haven Podcast. As a fourth-generation tribal rancher and owner of DX Beef, Kelsey’s passion lies in promoting regenerative agricultural practices that honor both the land and the people who work it. She chats with Callee about her journey from studying range land management to becoming the natural resources director at the Intertribal Agriculture Council (IAC).
Kelsey dives into her work with the IAC, where she collaborates with tribal producers, entities, and governments to enhance their agricultural operations. She explains how integrating practices like rotational grazing not only improves land health but also aligns with indigenous values of stewardship and sustainability. Her efforts go beyond farming techniques; they aim to rebuild the connection between people and their land. But that's not all.
Kelsey also touches on her involvement with The American Indian Foods Program, which aims to boost the economy through native agricultural products. And if you think her expertise is limited to agriculture, think again. She shares her love for traditional indigenous beadwork, adding a personal touch to the conversation. Whether you're interested in sustainable farming, indigenous culture, or simply looking for inspiration, Kelsey's story offers a rich tapestry of insights and practical advice.
Tune in to learn how you can make a positive impact on the environment while honoring age-old traditions.
