Cody Wickliffe: From Chaos to Clarity and Sobriety
I thought and acted alcoholically long before I was actually an alcoholic, and so you know I got here like I don't even know what the big deal is, man, I like to hang out with my friends.
Imagine growing up in a chaotic household, where Alcoholics Anonymous meetings were a welcome escape from the turmoil at home. That was Cody Wickliffe's reality. Starting from a young age, Cody's life was a whirlwind of ADHD medication, special education classes, and early encounters with alcohol. By 13, he was already deep into the party scene, using alcohol as a social crutch and a way to numb his anxiety.
At 14, his parents staged an intervention, hoping to save him from a path of self-destruction. Despite their efforts, Cody's addiction led him through a series of rehab facilities and eventually to the infamous Provo Canyon Boarding School, where he faced both physical and emotional abuse. This only pushed him further into his old habits, resulting in seven DUIs and numerous warrants for his arrest.
It wasn't until he was finally arrested in a bar that Cody's missed court dates and warrants caught up with him. But this low point became a turning point. Through the support of Alcoholics Anonymous and the 12-step program, Cody found the strength to turn his life around. Today, he's not just sober but thriving as the Special Assistant to the rock band Five Finger Death Punch.
In this episode of 'Knockin' Doorz Down', Cody shares his raw and unfiltered journey from addiction to sobriety. He talks about the importance of community, mental health, and self-care in recovery. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the impact of supportive communities.
For anyone grappling with addiction or supporting someone who is, Cody's journey offers a beacon of hope and practical advice: find your community, ask for help, and believe that sobriety is worth fighting for.
