Love and Recovery: Joaquin Barreda's Path to Sobriety and Connection
The best advice is that do what makes you feel good, and sobriety is something that makes you feel good.
Joaquin Barreda's journey to sobriety started with anxiety and insecurities that led him to take his first drink at just seven years old. By the time he was 13, he was experimenting with marijuana and cocaine. His story, shared on Sober Nation FM, is one of early struggles, setbacks, and ultimate triumph. At 24, Joaquin attended his first 12 Step meeting and found solace in the shared experiences of others.
He managed to stay sober for three years but eventually let other priorities overshadow his recovery efforts, leading to a relapse. After another round of treatment, Joaquin had a revelation while watching a TV commercial for a dating app. He wondered why there wasn't a similar platform for people in recovery.
This idea blossomed into the Clean And Sober Love (CASL) app, providing a safe space for those in recovery to meet and connect without the awkwardness of discussing sobriety on a first date. Today, Joaquin is eight years sober and serves as the head of Business Development for Mastermind Treatment Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In this episode, he opens up about the role of spirituality in his healing journey, the importance of community support, and the significance of self-care.
Joaquin also shares his experiences with dating in sobriety and emphasizes the value of honesty and communication in all relationships. His story is a beacon of hope for anyone navigating the path to recovery.
