Chris's Journey: From Trauma to Triumph in Recovery
And be in an angry way like just this is enough...Now I have a wonderful job, helping people who aren't quite ready to stop yet, and I have like a home and wonderful friends and a community, and I'm, I am, the happiest I've ever been right on.
Have you ever wondered how someone can rise from the depths of despair to find hope and healing? Chris's story is a powerful testament to resilience and courage. In this episode of 'Voices in Recovery', host David Lewry chats with his friend Chris, who opens up about his tumultuous past and the road to sobriety. Growing up in a small, religious town in Northern Ontario, Chris faced a difficult home life and bigotry for being gay.
His struggles led him into the dark world of addiction, where he encountered severe trauma, including rape and subsequent victimization by the police. This spiraled him further into homelessness, violence, and the sex trade. Despite these harrowing experiences, Chris has been sober for nine months and now dedicates his life to helping others. He focuses on supporting 2SLGBTQ individuals in recovery and is involved in opening Calgary's first 2SLGBTQ treatment center.
Chris's journey highlights the importance of vulnerability, community support, and creating inclusive recovery spaces. Tune in to hear how he turned his life around and found strength in helping others.
