The hardest thing is probably the thing I learned the most, which is go slow, be patient. We don't live in a world where we expect. People drink a lot of coffee, which is okay, I like coffee too, but wow, it's important. It's amazing for me having slowed down what I even see differently like the trees immersed in my backyard, like was that tree? Oh, is it? I mean, what I missed before when I was a big doer. Life has become more focused; you see things that you didn't see before that were always there.
Imagine waking up one day to find that your life has changed in an instant. That’s exactly what happened to Elizabeth Cottone at the age of 50 when she experienced a cerebellar hemorrhagic stroke. In this episode of 'Recovery After Stroke', host Bill Gasiamis sits down with Elizabeth to uncover the raw and real journey of her recovery. Elizabeth's story is one of grit and transformation, as she navigates the emotional and physical challenges that came with her stroke.
She opens up about the initial shock, the painstakingly slow progress, and the small victories that kept her going. Her book, 'Reinvention: Life After Traumatic Change', serves as a testament to her resilience and offers inspiration to others facing similar battles. During their conversation, Elizabeth also touches on how her stroke affected her family, particularly her daughter's unique understanding of dyslexia. She emphasizes the importance of surrounding oneself with supportive people and maintaining patience throughout the recovery process.
This episode isn't just about overcoming a medical condition; it's about embracing change and finding new purpose in life. If you're looking for a story that speaks to the heart and soul of human resilience, Elizabeth's journey is one you won't want to miss.
