Cannabis Use Disorder: Insights and Treatment Pathways with Rachel Lees
It's not just about them being represented kind of in the trials. They are potentially more likely to develop Cud quicker than men would. And so I think it's really important actually to get a better understanding of what works in the real world and kind of, as part of that, working through that, figuring out ways to improve the access and the acceptability of treatments to hopefully then help to increase the number of people that do engage with treatment for Cud.
Curious about Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD) and the latest research surrounding it? In this episode of 'PhD: Addicted to Research', Chloe and Merve sit down with Rachel Lees, a PhD student from the University of Bath, to shed light on this complex topic. Rachel debunks common misconceptions about CUD and delves into the various treatment options available. They explore both psychosocial treatments, like cognitive behavioural therapy, and pharmacological approaches, with a particular focus on the emerging potential of cannabidiol (CBD).
The conversation also touches on the barriers and limitations in CUD treatment research, including gender bias in clinical trials and the stigma associated with cannabis use. Rachel shares valuable advice for current and future PhD students on navigating unexpected challenges in their research journey. Whether you're an academic, a student, or someone interested in addiction studies, this episode offers a wealth of knowledge and practical insights.
