Mastering Emotions: Breaking Free from Addiction Myths

Episode Overview

  • Emotions are guided by your interpretation, not your biochemistry
  • The prevailing direction in addiction treatment is alarming
  • The current generation is adopting a fragile self-image
  • Understanding the relationship between your mind and body is crucial in guiding your thoughts and emotions
  • The Freedom Model offers an alternative approach to addiction and emotional struggles
Your interpretation in your mind is what guides your reality, not your biochemistry. The overwhelming data suggests that we're moving in a bad direction. This latest generation of children has grown to think that they're fragile, weak, and screwed. But even now, even now, I'm going to, I think we can close with this because emotions are what they are. And there is definitely something to hormones, but the hormones make you physically feel kind of crappy. There are days that are very low energy where I had trouble staying awake all day, where there are nights where I didn't sleep at all, okay? Which makes you feel kind of crappy. And yes, there are some days when I would be like, oh, my fuse is short today and I'll feel it. Men have hormonal days and we go through menopause. And we're geared, unlike a woman whose hormones open the channels in their brain tissue to make efficient thoughts for emotions, ours is for aggression. But that doesn't mean that I have a license to go out and hurt somebody. When you understand that your mind is your mind and your body is your body and they have this relationship of working together that makes your being and you become aware of this and you become aware of your thoughts, you can guide your thoughts.
