Braiden Tonks, or 'Tonksy' as he's known, takes us on a gripping ride from the depths of addiction to a life filled with hope and purpose. Growing up in Tasmania, Tonksy faced a rough start with his parents' split, which led him down a path of rebellion, drugs, and crime. By his early twenties, he was deeply entangled in the world of ice (methamphetamine), going from occasional use to daily intravenous consumption.
His life spiraled into dealing drugs, committing crimes, and eventually landing in prison. In this episode of 'Kick the Sh!t Podcast,' hosted by Danny Shannon, Tonksy opens up about his harrowing journey. He recounts the devastating impact his addiction had on his relationships, especially with his partner and children. Multiple failed attempts at recovery and a tarnished reputation as a 'junkie' in Hobart pushed him to make a bold move—relocating to the Gold Coast.
This change of scenery marked the beginning of his transformation. Since moving, Tonksy has not only achieved sobriety but also rebuilt his life in remarkable ways. He started his own podcast, 'Tonksy Media Podcast,' and founded a successful videography business. Gaining 50% custody of his children and welcoming a new baby girl with his supportive fiancée are testaments to his incredible turnaround. Tonksy's story is a powerful reminder that even in the darkest times, change is possible.
His journey from addiction to aspiration is filled with moments of reflection, faith, and unwavering determination. If you're looking for a tale of resilience and hope, this episode is a must-listen.
